The New Mexico Construction Industries Division requires a trade exam for all classifications and contractors must submit examination scores before the application is processed.
Every contractor must meet financial responsibility requirements. Contractor’s maximum permit or contract value may be increased at any time but may be decreased only at renewal. If the contractor is using a bond or cash collateral assignment, the company name must read exactly the same as the name on your application. The cash collateral or bond document must be signed and notarized by a bank official or bonding agent.
You will not be permitted to schedule an examination until your work history has been verified. You must submit affidavits proving that you have the required work experience for the specific classification(s) for which you are applying.
To qualify for streets, roads, and highways including general building construction requires a minimum of two years full-time related experience as an employee of a licensed contractor.
