The Division is responsible for sending a renewal notice to each licensee at least 60 days prior to the expiration date.

Utah Contractors LIcenseThe Division is responsible for sending a renewal notice to each licensee at least 60 days prior to the expiration date. Most renewal notices are sent via mail unless the licensee has authorized the division to send a renewal notice via email. If the latter is selected as the exclusive method of receipt, it is considered to be the only legal notice you will receive. It is therefore the duty and responsibility of each licensee to maintain a current email address with the Division. Regardless of delivery method, all renewal notices will have directions and requirements.

The Division may require that a specified number of continuing education hours or courses be obtained prior to license renewal in order to assure competent practice. While a licensee may receive a waiver of any continuing education requirement due to medical or related condition or humanitarian efforts, the licensee cannot be exempted from the continuing education requirements.

Examinations are part of the initial license requirement as well as a condition for maintaining a license years after initial license obtainment. Failure to pass an exam is considered to be a critical indicator that an applicant or licensee does not meet the minimum qualifications for licensure. Cheating by an applicant or licensee on an exam is considered unprofessional and will result in penalty. Cheating, defined as the use of any means to alter the results of an exam in any way to cause the results to inaccurately represent the competency of an examinee, is disloyal. If a licensee or applicant is found cheating, he or she will be denied the privilege of retaking the examination for a reasonable period of time, and the Division may deny the applicant a license and may establish conditions the applicant must meet to qualify for a license.
